The studio is a hive of creative activity this month as preparation reaches fever pitch ready for my exhibition “Where The River Goes” at West Acre Gallery starting on 16th July. The exhibition celebrates my connection to watery environments in Norfolk and the Inner Hebrides.
Getting out and about in ‘blue spaces’ in the last couple of years has brought huge benefits to many people. Whether it’s a kayak, SUP, sail boat or a walk on beach or river bank our mental health is supported as well as our physical health.
Artists are never off-duty and our eyes are never at rest. Expressing a connection to watery environments in paint is as much a part of my being as breathing. Water is inspirationally so sustaining. The way it interacts with light, and the ebb and flow of the tides. So with all its changeable moods, who can resist the idea of diving in?
From sailing to an uninhabited island for a beach picnic to kayaking on the Little Ouse early on a blue sky February morning with the rising mist hanging above the reeds. As the great poet Rumi said “when you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving within you”. Rivers, the sea and the creative process all help to keep the river of my soul in balance.
“Where The River Goes” is at West Acre Gallery from 16th to 24th July, 10am – 4pm. For more information, please use the Contact form.
