“My work explores those spaces and places on the edges or margins of environment – between the sea, the land and the sky, and the often hidden world of our rivers”
I use colour and texture to capture light and mood and to evoke a sense of place. This can be a feeling of calm and renewal or invigoration in stormy weather, and even the mysterious light of a lifting sea fret. Paintings are conceived whilst sailing, kayaking or walking the dogs when I make use of both sketchbook and camera to capture my thoughts before working them up into paintings in the studio where the memory and feeling for the moment informs the work.
Living beneath the huge skies of Norfolk with its’ vast horizons and visiting my tiny island home in the Inner Hebrides with its’ ever-changing light and weather I have an endless panorama of seascapes and riverscapes to inspire me as an artist.
