Commissioning a work of art

If you like the work on this site but have your own thoughts on a painting that has more personal meaning for you then why not talk to me about a commission?

It is assumed that having seen the paintings on the site and approaching me about a commission that the style of work suits your taste and it is understood that the commissioned work will be in the same style.

The process

Email or telephone and have a chat about your idea or make an appointment to meet for a discussion.  I prefer to work from sketches and notes that I make myself but it is sometimes possible to work from a photograph (providing the photograph has been taken by you).

We will discuss subject, size, format, price, any additional costs, framing if required, insurance, transportation, hanging, and completion date.

I will then write with the agreed details and a copy of my terms and conditions.

You then send me a signed copy of the letter and the initial payment and work on your commission will start.

The painting will be completed within the agreed timescale and on payment of the balance the artwork will be yours.

Payment details

50% of the price agreed is payable at the time of order.  In the event of cancellation by the purchaser for whatever reason, this sum is non-refundable and covers administrative cost, location studies, travel, materials, time expended etc..  The balance is payable on collection or before shipping of the commission along with any transport costs arranged on behalf of the purchaser.  The painting remains the property of the artist until all costs have been paid in full.

Shipping

Original works of art are purchased on an ex-studio basis i.e. all packing and shipping costs are the responsibility of the purchaser.  Purchases will not be refunded because a purchaser has failed to allow for these costs.

All items purchased are shipped without insurance.  It is strongly recommended that you take out insurance for the transport of original works of art.

Copyright

Elizabeth Fitzgerald Carter retains the copyright on all original works of art, printed materials, and commissioned work.  Work may only be exhibited with her permission.  Work or part of a work may not be modified, copied, distributed, transmitted, displayed, reproduced, photocopied, published, licensed, for either personal or commercial purposes without the written permission and payment of relevant fees to Elizabeth Fitzgerald Carter.  (Please use the contact details on this site.)
